The
GI Film Festival, which will take place Armed Forces
Weekend, May 14-18, 2008, is pleased to announce that
producer, actor Matt Battaglia has joined the festival's
Entertainment Advisory Committee.
Battaglia
is a Co-Producer of "Brothers", starring Tobey
Maguire, Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Film is being
directed by six time Academy Award nominee -- Jim Sheridan
("My Left Foot", "In The Name of the
Father"). Script
was written by David Benioff ("Troy" & the
upcoming "X-Men Origins - Wolverine"). Film is
being produced by Relativity Media ("Charlie Wilson's
War", "American Gangster", "3:10 to
Yuma", "The Kingdom", "The Pursuit of
Happiness"). Domestic distribution is being handled by
MGM with foreign distribution
being handled by Lionsgate. Tells the story of a young man
who
comforts his older brother's wife and children after he goes
missing in Afghanistan. Based on Susanne Bier's film,
"Brothers". Film is due in theaters in the fall of
2008.
Battaglia
Co-Executive Produced the feature film entitled "Kill
Theory", originally entitled "Last Resort",
directed by Chris Moore (Producer on "Good Will
Hunting", "Best Laid Plans", "Reindeer
Games", "American Pie 1 & 2" and
"Project Greenlight" for Miramax). The film is
being produced by Benderspink and Element Films and has
received distribution through Lionsgate ("3:10 to
Yuma", "Saw" 1, 2 & 3") on no less
than 1,200 screens nationwide.
Blink
Entertainment is a newly formed motion picture production
and financing company formed by Battaglia which is seeking
over $300 million in equity capital and debt financing, for
the purposes of financing 3-4 pictures per year with budgets
generally between $15 - $25 million.
As
a television producer, Battaglia produced "The Mint
Jubilee" (mintjubilee.org),
an enormous charity event which raises money for cancer
patients while providing financial resources to scientists,
cancer centers and hospitals that are committed to finding
cures or controls for cancer.
This
non-profit organization was started by Battaglia in memory
of his mother Nancy Van Cleve Battaglia, who he lost to
cancer in 1993. During the time in which he served as Host
and Producer of the show, it became a world class event that
attracted high profiled celebrities, entertainers and
dignitaries from around the globe and had been televised
worldwide in over 130 countries and over 200 million homes.
As an
actor, Matt has acted in over 60 television shows and 10
motion pictures.
