Fitness Guru, Actor Billy Blanks Joins Festival

The GI Film Festival, which will be held on Memorial Day Weekend 2007 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC, welcomes world karate champion, actor, author and philanthropist Billy Blanks to the festival line-up.  Blanks is scheduled to introduce one of the festival’s featured films while also screening some of his personal videos from his overseas trips to visit the troops.

Perhaps best known for developing his revolutionary “Tae Bo” total body fitness system derived from his extensive martial arts training, Blanks is a seven-time world karate champion.  He has won 36 gold medals in international competition while earning admission to the Karate Hall of Fame in 1982

In addition to accomplishments in the fields of martial arts and fitness training, Blanks has also appeared in a number of films, including Tango & Cash, Driving Force, Lionheart, and The Last Boy Scout.  Moreover, in 1999, Blanks and his wife Gayle established the Bill Blanks Foundation to equip high-risk individuals with life skills that allow them to achieve their full potential.  Blanks has also done notable work with the military, including trips to Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo, Sarajevo, Greece, Africa, Germany and Italy, to work with members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
