Academy
Award Winner Ernest Borgnine Joins Festival
The
GI Film Festival, which will be held on Memorial Day Weekend 2007 at the
Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC,
announced today that Academy Award winning actor Ernest Borgnine has
joined the festival’s Hollywood Advisory Committee. Mr. Borgnine’s prolific 57-year career includes appearances in over 100 feature films, including the Academy Award-winning From Here to Eternity, The Poseidon Adventure, The Dirty Dozen, The Wild Bunch and Marty, for which Mr. Borgnine earned an Academy Award in the “Best Actor” category. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Borgnine also starred in the popular television sitcom McHale’s Navy, playing the role of Lt. Quinton McHale from 1962-1966. Mr.
Borgnine continues to work in film today.
When not in front of the camera, Mr. Borgnine is active in numerous
charities, and tirelessly speaks at benefits throughout the country. “One day…I saw a sign that said: ‘Join the Navy, See the World.’ So I went to the recruiter, unbeknownst to my mother and dad, and said ‘I'd like to join the Navy’…It made a man out of me. And I have never regretted one day, not ever.” Academy Award Winning Actor Ernest Borgnine on his 10-year service in the U.S. Navy.
