The History Channel Joins Festival as Sponsor

Arlington, VA – The GI Film Festival announced today that the History Channel has joined the festival as a media sponsor and will provide programming during the three-day event to be held Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28, 2007, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC.  The History Channel will screen its new series Dogfights: The Greatest Air Battles in the festival’s exhibit hall, and provide a documentary feature in the main theater.

From the History Channel website regarding Dogfights:

“For most people, the futility and tragedy of the Great War is symbolized by the muddy trench network that criss-crossed France and Belgium from late 1914 onwards.  However, the airborne dog fights of the First World War introduced a new kind of hero who hovered above the barbed wire and carnage - the ‘lone warrior’ of the air.”

The History Channel has earned three Peabody Awards, six News and Documentary Emmy Awards and received the prestigious Governor's Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for the network's “Save Our History” campaign dedicated to historic preservation and history education. The History Channel reaches more than 89 million Nielsen subscribers.
