GI Film Festival Welcomes Director Ron Maxwell (Gettysburg, Gods and Generals)
The
GI Film Festival is proud to announce that world renowned director and
screenwriter Ron Maxell has joined the festival’s Hollywood Advisory
Committee. Maxwell is also scheduled to screen one of his films
during the festival, which will be held Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28,
at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in
Washington, DC.
A graduate of New York University’s Graduate School of the Arts, Institute of Film and Television, Maxwell wrote and directed two epic civil war movies, Gettysburg (1993) and Gods and Generals (2003). “Gettysburg,” which starred Jeff Daniels and Martin Sheen, was hailed by film critical Leonard Maltin as “magnificent and awe-inspiring,” while “Gods and Generals,” starring Robert Duvall and Stephen Lang, was hailed as the “best American historical film period” by American Enterprise Magazine.
In 1978, Maxwell also produced and directed Sissy Spacek, Bill Hurt, Sally Kellerman and Howard da Dilva in “Verna: USO Girl” for which Ron received a best director Emmy nomination. Currently, Maxwell is in pre-production on "Joan of Arc: Virgin Warrior" and in long range prep on "Last Full Measure," the final part of his Civil War Trilogy.
