Academy Award Nominated Actor Gary Sinise Joins Festival

 

Arlington , VA – The GI Film Festival is pleased to announce that Emmy Award winning actor Gary Sinise, star of the CBS hit series CSI: New York, has joined the festival lineup.  Sinise will screen Forrest Gump, a film for which he received a Best Actor in a Supporting Role nomination for his portrayal of disabled veteran Lt. Dan Taylor, on Saturday night, May 26. Sinise, the national spokesperson for the Disabled Veterans Life Memorial Foundation, will be guest of honor at a VIP reception following the movie screening to benefit the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial.

 

Gary Sinise is an accomplished film, theater and television actor, as well as a director and producer.  In addition to his Oscar nomination, Sinise is a three-time Golden Globe Award nominee.  He won the award in 1996 for his role in Truman.  He is a two-time Emmy Award nominee, and won the award in 1998 for his lead role in George Wallace.

He is a three-time Tony award nominee as well.  Among his major motion picture credits:  Apollo 13, Ransom, The Green Mile, The Human Stain, Imposter, Of Mice and Men, Reindeer Games, and A Midnight Clear.

 

In addition to his success in the entertainment field, Gary Sinise also uses his considerable talents to support troops stationed overseas. Along with his Lt. Dan Band (named for his character from Forrest Gump), Sinise has embarked on numerous USO/Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE) tours.  He has also traveled to both Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington , D.C. , and the National Navy Medical Center in Bethesda , Md. , to visit troops wounded in Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He recently co-founded Operation Iraqi Children with Seabiscuit: An American Legend author Laura Hillenbrand, an effort to help educate Iraqi children.  And he is the national spokesperson for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial.
