Michael
Yon to Participate in GIFF Panel Arlington, VA – The GI Film Festival is proud to announce the addition of author, blogger, and former Green Beret Michael Yon to the festival line-up. Yon is scheduled to participate in a GI Film Festival panel discussion, “War Stories,” which will feature tales of heroism from the front lines.
Mr. Yon is a perfect candidate to highlight the compassion and courage of our fighting men and women. Mr. Yon was embedded with the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment (Deuce Four) of the 25th Infantry Division in Mosul, Iraq until the end of its deployment in September, 2005. His dispatches from Iraq, described as “gutsy and honest,” have been quoted by numerous major media outlets in the United States, while also being nominated for Pulitzer Prizes.
Mr.
Yon’s online magazine, www.michaelyon-online.com/,
which registered 1.5 million in the last quarter of 2005 alone, received a
“webblog” award as the “best media/journalist blog” of 2005.
His photograph of Major Mark Bieger cradling an Iraqi girl wounded by
shrapnel from a car bomb was submitted to Time magazine and voted
